A message from our founder
A tradition etched in time
Every Saturday afternoon, like clockwork, my grandmother would call me into the kitchen. The air would already be heavy with the sweet, spiced aroma of Somali chai — cinnamon, cardamom, cloves — dancing through the room like a memory. As we sipped the warm tea from delicate cups, she'd begin mixing qaasil in a little wooden bowl, just like her mother had taught her.
She’d tell me stories of her youth back in Somalia — how women would gather under the acacia trees, laughing, sharing secrets, and smoothing the green paste onto their skin as the sun dipped low. “Qaasil isn’t just for beauty,” she’d say, smiling as she dotted some onto my cheeks. “It’s how we honor ourselves, how we remember who we are.” Though we were decades apart in age, those quiet weekends brought us together in a way nothing else could. It was our ritual — chai and qaasil, laughter and love.
Now that she’s gone, I carry on the tradition. Each time I steep the tea and smooth that familiar green across my face, I feel her with me. This isn’t just skincare. It’s heritage. It’s healing. It’s home.
